A 7-year-old Paint gelding presented with a 2-day history of mild colic. On gross examination, the large colon and cecum had ecchymotic serosal surfaces, markedly thickened and edematous walls, and ulcerated mucosal surfaces with adhered thick fibrin aggregates. The colonic and cecal lumens contained abundant, watery material. Petechiae and ecchymoses were present over the serosal surfaces of the diaphragm, liver, epicardium, endocardium, and oral mucous membranes.
